Pre-K and scholarships: what to know

The NC Opportunity Scholarship is a K–12 program, so it doesn't apply to Pre-K Enrichment. We do accept applications for private scholarships provided by grants and community donors — these are for preschool-aged students and are awarded based on availability of funds and the financial need of the family. Pre-K scholarship recipients volunteer at all fundraising events and once a month at the school.

One more avenue: some employers offer a Health Care FSA, a pre-tax savings account for families that they can use for preschool and childcare expenses. Ask your employer if this benefit is offered to you, or learn more at fsafeds.gov.

How the scholarship works · Cómo funciona

From application to approved — in four steps.

For qualifying families, the scholarship can cover up to 94% of K–12 tuition here. The priority window to apply runs February 2 – March 2 each year — and if you missed it, apply anyway. You could still receive the scholarship after priority has passed.

Check eligibility

Every NC K–12 student can apply, regardless of income. Your household income tier sets your award amount.

Apply through NCSEAA

Submit the Opportunity Scholarship application online at k12.ncseaa.edu — ideally inside the February 2 – March 2 priority window.
