2nd Grade
Nuestra clase fundadora avanza
New for 2026–27 as our founding students move up. English grows to 20% of the day while Spanish stays the heart of it. Age 7.

What 2nd grade looks like
2nd grade is new for 2026–27 — added, like every grade we'll add, because our oldest students moved up and the school grows with them. It's also where our graduated immersion model takes its first step: after years at 90/10, the balance shifts to 80/20, so English grows to about a fifth of the day while Spanish remains the language of the classroom.
The rhythm stays familiar — morning meeting, math, and project (mission) based learning in Spanish, a growing English literacy block, a character trait and memory verse each month, and a monthly family field study. Students who've grown up in the model are reading and writing in both languages by now. That's the whole point of starting early.
The weekly rhythm
- Mon–ThuIn person, 8:30 AM – 2:30 PM. Full immersion school day.
- FridayVirtual day — live touchpoint 9:00–10:00 AM, then structured at-home follow-up.
- Sat–SunClosed. Rest and family time.
We run a year-round calendar — roughly six weeks on, one week off, with longer breaks at Christmas and the end of the school year, still about 180 school days. Dates live on the school calendar.
What families should know
2nd grade isn't an entry point. New students join Sol & Son at or before 1st grade — the immersion model depends on the Spanish foundation built early — so 2nd grade seats belong to students moving up with the school. If your child is younger, Pre-K through 1st grade is where to start.
2nd grade families use the NC Opportunity Scholarship the same way K and 1st do — Sol & Son is an approved Direct Payment School with NCSEAA, so funds flow directly to the school. Tuition, fees, and scholarship tiers are on the tuition page.
