What Kindergarten looks like
Kindergarten is where immersion becomes a way of life. About 90% of the day happens in Spanish — morning meeting, math, and project (mission) based learning — with the other 10% given to focused English literacy. Classrooms are two-way: roughly half our students come from English-speaking homes and half from Spanish-speaking homes, so both groups grow bilingual and biliterate together. Some kindergartners come up from our Pre-K already comfortable in Spanish; others are brand new to the language. Both are exactly who this year is built for — Kindergarten is an entry point.
Days are hands-on and warm: play, songs, centers, and projects, with each month anchored by a character trait and memory verse. If you're looking for something different for your kindergartener, this is the heart of it — small class sizes, a family-centered environment, Christ-centered character education, a developmentally appropriate schedule, and true Spanish/English immersion.
The weekly rhythm
- Mon–ThuIn person, 8:30 AM – 2:30 PM. Full immersion school day.
- FridayVirtual day — live touchpoint 9:00–10:00 AM, then structured at-home follow-up.
- Sat–SunClosed. Rest and family time.
We run a year-round calendar — roughly six weeks on, one week off, with longer breaks at Christmas and the end of the school year, still about 180 school days. Families also join a family field study together each month. Dates live on the school calendar.
What families should know
Kindergarten is one of the entry points into Sol & Son — new students can join at or before 1st grade. After that, enrollment closes: the immersion model depends on the Spanish foundation built in these early years, so we don't take new students in 2nd grade and up.
Kindergarten is also where the NC Opportunity Scholarship starts. Sol & Son is an approved Direct Payment School with NCSEAA, so scholarship funds flow directly to the school. Tuition, fees, and scholarship tiers are all on the tuition page.
